A new survey by DisplaySearch shows a 28% increase in TV shipments globally since this same time last year. LCD flat panel TVs were the most popular shipped TV, making up 52% of the second quarter shipments. Though LCD TVs have a slight lead, plasma sets continue to gain in shipments, up 34% from last year.
The most popular TV brand in North America, according to the survey, is Samsung which made up 19.1% of all TVs shipped. Sony was the second most popular LCD manufacturer. Panasonic was the most popular plasma TV manufacturer.
Does all this shipment data equate to sales popularity. Tough to say. Certainly the resellers are banking on these brands as being the most popular this upcoming holiday season.
