Simple Home Theater Set-Up Problems

You’ve installed your new plasma screen television. The wires are all connected and neatly hidden by wire covers.  Your speakers are placed and ready. The lights on your cable box and A/V receiver are bouncing away.  Your remote is poised and you hit “Power.”  At this point, you may be struck with any number of audio or video problems you were not anticipating. Some of these are basic problems that are easily remedied. Before you call your home theater retailer in a panic, double check that you did not miss some of these basic installation items.

The TV is on but you don’t have a picture
Make sure that your video cables are connected to the right spot.  Then make sure your television is set to the right video channel to receive the signal.

You have a distorted picture on the television
Make sure your cables are of a good quality for transmitting HD. Then check the connections between the TV and the cable box and make sure you are plugged in correctly.

You Can’t Hear Anything
Make sure the audio settings on your cable box are the same as the audio output you are using. And, umm, check the volume settings.
