Netflix will Drop HD DVD

More bad news for HD DVD came out this week.  Netflix has announced they will drop HD DVD from its offerings and move to exclusively carrying Blu-ray discs.  They plan to phase out their existing HD DVD stock over the course of 2008.

Netflix stated in press release that they believe “the industry has stated its clear preference” for Blu-ray, referring to the recent announcements from Warner Bros and Universal that they will be moving away from HD DVD. Netflix stated that the majority of their HD hungry members prefer Blu-ray, though admittedly, these subscribers make up a very small percentage of their overall customer base.

Surprisingly, HD DVD is still in the game though it seems its foothold is slipping as each week goes on.
