LCD Flat Panel Televisions

LCD flat panel TVs are among the most popular televisions being sold today. But why would you want to buy a LCD television rather than a plasma television, or vice versa.  LCD flat panel TVs have specific advantages and disadvantages depending on what you are looking for in a video display for your home theater.

What makes them so great?
The first and most obvious advantage of a LCD flat panel is their size. These TVs are incredibly thin so that they can be mounted on a wall or placed on a narrow shelf to save space in your home.  LCD televisions have a life of 50K-60K viewing hours making them a good long-term investment. Unlike plasmas, these televisions will not burn an image into the screen if kept on for a long-period of time (think leaving the TV on the menu screen for a week).

What do watch out for?
There are a few things that LCD televisions lack.  Older models do not have as good of a picture quality as plasma displays.  The black and dark image display in LCD TVs is also sub par to the plasma screens available.  Prices vary between manufacturers, retailers and locations but generally large LCD TVs cost more than the same sized plasma display (always check with a retailer on cost details).
