Clearing Up Screen Resolution

The screen resolution that a particular television model has is included in the product specification and description because this is important information for a consumer to know. But many consumers aren’t exactly sure exactly what screen resolution is. You may see 1080i listed for the screen resolution on that HDTV you are considering buying, but what does that mean anyway? Read on as we try to make screen resolution less blurry for you.

Screen resolution is measured in pixels which controls the depth and clarity of a displayed image. The higher the pixels, (denoted with a numbering system) the clearer and richer the image you see on your screen. Although the technical side of screen resolutions may not appeal to you, receiving high quality imaging on your television, through your home theater system, or with your video equipment is certainly appealing. In fact, many people say that high screen resolution has transformed their viewing experiences from alright to spectacular.

Different television models use different screen resolutions to display images. For example SDTV uses 480i, EDTV uses 480p, and HDTV’s can be found using screen resolutions of 720p, 1080i, and 1080p.  Computers typically use even higher screen resolutions such as 1024x 768 or higher. Video game consoles typically use a screen resolution of 1600x 1200; although some are found with even higher screen resolutions. What does this all really boil down to? Whether you are looking to purchase a television, home theater system, computer, gaming console, or video equipment, higher screen resolutions translates into clearer, richer picture, sound, and graphics. Why not go for the best with high screen resolutions in all of the electronics you purchase and get better value for your money by doing so?

Low screen resolution produces poor quality display images. This means you see blurred images or lines on your screen instead of clear pictures. Computers, televisions, home theatre systems, video, and other electronics use screen resolutions to produce and display images for viewing. You can easily spot the difference between low and high screen resolution even without checking to see its resolution number, simply by how deeply defined the images are that you are seeing. Why throw away your hard earned money on lower screen resolution that forces you to squint or imagine what you are not able to see? Higher screen resolution allows more color and definitions to the images that are displayed for an unbeatably crisp and clear picture.

It used to be that we could only get the richest and clearest viewing experience when we went out to take in movies shown in movie theatres. But nowadays we can get clear, rich picture and sound we loved at the movie house, at home.  High definition televisions or HDTV’s have burst on the scene along with superior home theatre systems that bring the experience of the theatre right into your living room.  Computers, DVD players, video recorders, cameras, and other electronic equipment using imaging technology now all have models featuring higher screen resolution options.

The imaging capabilities of digital media in its many forms has proven to be so superior to other technology such as analog, that all television broadcasting will switch to digital signaling  by February 2009. This is just the beginning really as more people become aware of the difference digital imaging makes and demand this technology be made available to them in more of the electronic products they use. You can learn more about the switch to digital TV here.

Since we are talking about screen resolutions and televisions, home theatre systems and video equipment, it makes sense to mention the DVD Blu-Ray phenomenon. Whew! Just when you thought a DVD was a DVD and they couldn’t get any better, the Blu-Ray format came along and blew competitors right off the shelf! In fact movies and music videos held on blu-ray discs are given more shelf space in stores today than those given to other disc formats. These discs are high definition optical DVDs that produce superior imaging and sound, and has other applications such as better data storage. Big name companies have catapulted the domination of blu-ray discs over others by deciding to exclusively use the format in the production of their products and for the products they will feature for sale to consumers.

Use the internet to do some side by side comparisons of different high screen resolution televisions, home theater systems, and video equipment before buying. Choose the highest screen resolution number that you can afford and set up your own exclusive in-home theatre experience. Buy or rent a movie that is held on a blu-ray disc, grab some snacks and settle in for the richest and clearest pictures and sounds you have ever experienced from the comfort of your living room.
