High-Definition and Your Television | What You Should Know

There are a lot of televisions out there with a laundry list of features that can entice any home theater enthusiast.  There are so many things that make one TV different from another beside just the look and size. One thing everyone is or should be interested in is a television that can handle high-definition television and DVDs. But what does that mean?  How do you decide if a television has the high-definition features you REALLY need?

  1. Make sure your TV has at least one HDMI output. This output carries audio and video information through one single cable, creating the optimal signal for high definition.
  2. Find a plasma or LCD that can receive 1080p. This is the best resolution for HD video. Television networks will start broadcasting in this resolution in the future. You’ll save yourself from feeling the need to buy another TV in three years if you purchase one now that can handle this.
  3. Ask your cable company about their HD service.  You may need to upgrade your cable box or pay more to even receive High-definition television.
