Sony, Motorola Field Emission Displays in 2009
The Field Emission Display technology developed by Sony and Motorola is expected to be available in 2009 in broadcast and medical applications, according to DVICE. This FED, currently a prototype, is a 19 inch screen with 1080 by 1920 resolution that throws electrons at the surface of a vacuum tube, but unlike a CRT, it uses a multi-part emitter rather than a single electron gun. It is hoped that 30 and 60 inch models will be available for consumers in the future.
