Plasma TVs Can Last A Long Time
![]()
Panasonic is straightening out the confusion regarding plasma televisions. The plasma screen manufacturer has released a press release in which it states that the 2008 Panasonic Viera plasma line maintains full brightness for up to tens of thousands of hours of use. Only after that do their brightness begin to wane. The 1080p plasma models reach half brightness at around 100,000 hours, or after 42 years of use, based on daily viewing averages. How many households hold onto their TVs for over 40 years in this day and age?
Panasonic hopes to clarify the misconception that plasmas don’t last as long as their competitor, the LCD flat panel. It has been widely believed by electronics retailers that the key disadvantage of plasmas was this diminishing of screen brightness over time.
