Paramount Pictures Announces HD-DVD Exclusivity
Paramount Pictures shocked electronic enthusiasts this week when they announced they will now be exclusively supporting HD-DVD formats for all future high-definition releases. Paramount Pictures include production companies Dreamworks, Nickelodeon Movies and MTV Films. Both Paramount and Warner have been supporting both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD formats up until now and recent growth in Blu-Ray’s popularity with other distribution outlets seemed to indicate the production companies would follow the trend.
Universal Studios was the only studio until now that backed HD-DVD exclusively in spite of the increasing lead Blu-Ray has had in the Player and Software sales space. It will be interesting to see whether this decision by Paramount changes these sales figures. Consumers may be shopping for a Blu-Ray/HD-DVD player combo in order to get the best quality visuals and sound from their favorite movies. LG and Samsung have already introduced products like this, but will we see more if the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD fight does not result in a clear winner?
