Flat-Panel Television Theft on the Rise, Prevent with Wall Mounts
Police are warning against the rising theft of plasma and other flat panel televisions. Local papers around the U.S. are filling with police reports of homes being robbed of their home theater video displays.
Flat-screen HDTVs have become a status symbol for millions of Americans who are showcasing their prosperity with their lightweight, sleek television sets. Unfortunately, it is these very characteristics that make it so easy for thieves to pinch them. Thieves can grab a flat panel easily in comparison with the old tube models that weigh a couple hundred pounds. TVs are almost always placed in clear site as well.
So how do you make the theft of your new plasma television a bit more difficult for would-be robbers? Experts say mounting your TV on the wall will make it nearly impossible for a thief to take your television quickly and easily. One retail store in Florida has had three break-ins since it mounted a flat-panel screen to their store wall. Though the criminals attempted to steal the television on all three occasions, they were unable to pry it off the wall. When looking for a TV wall-mount, ask if the model includes any special security lock features that you may wish to take advantage of.
