Adding A Media Player To Your Home Theater

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

When it comes to home theater systems most people are aware of the common items that come with a home theater system such as DVD players, speakers, etc.  Many people are unfamiliar with a number of other unique components that are available as add-ons to the home theater system. One such component is the Prismiq media player which allows you to play media files from your computer on your home theater system. Now, the media players on most PCs and laptops are excellent but they can not compare to the experience of watching a movie file on a top of the line home entertainment system. The Prismiq streams digital audio, video and photo files.  It can also stream internet radio.

Never Underestimate a Universal Remote Control

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

If there was one thing that can really take the wind out of the sails of a home theater system it is struggling with remote controls. And that’s remote controls…plural. If you purchase your home theater system “piece meal” and have a remote control for a TV set, one for a DVD player, one for your cable box, etc it can make life complicated – struggling with half a dozen remote controls will turn a viewing experience into a gigantic struggle. Clearly, this is where a reliable universal remote control comes into play. Basically, a universal remote system collects all the various components of the home theater system and places them under the control of one remote. Now, not all remotes are created equal and some of the more comprehensive remote controls can run upwards of $400, but there are also a number of more affordable models as well. So, if you are tired of having to lug a suitcase full of remote controls into your easy chair the next time you watch TV you may wish to purchase a universal remote instead.

How to Wall Mount Your Flat Screen Television

Monday, September 10th, 2007

Installing a flat panel television requires patience, preparation and a certain amount of equipment and skill. If you are at any way hesitant about mounting your flat screen yourself – DON’T!!!  You will be much happier if you pay a professional a little money to properly and safely install your new video display. If you don’t want to pay someone to mount it, at least have a consultation by an expert so that you can get the proper guidance on how to mount it without causing damage. Remember, many warranties do not cover damage to a plasma or LCD flat panel received during the wall mounting process.

No Fast Forwarding With Time Warner Cable DVR

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Time Warner Cable hid some discouraging news in an otherwise exciting announcement of their new service, Look Back.  Time Warner Cable subscribers will be able to view already-aired programming easier with the new, free service.  The unhappy reality of that service, the one that was not overly stated, was that viewers will be unable to fast-forward through commercials.  The fast-forward function available in other services is disabled in their DVR system.
