Picking Your Seat: Home Theater Seating (Part II)

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Once you have laid out the theater room and seen what space you have available, you can determine what home theater seating options are appropriate.  Given the space remaining, how many chairs or couches are realistic?  Make sure to take into account whether you will want side tables or a coffee table in the room.  True theater style chairs give you the most seating for the space but they may not be the most comfortable.  More comfortable chairs tend to be wider and plusher which takes up more floor space.  If you have kids, you may want to consider seats with cup holders in them to both save space and protect against spills.  Otherwise, coffee tables will definitely be needed.

Picking Your Seat: Home Theater Seating (Part 1)

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

We all have great dreams of a luxurious home theater room with comfortable leather chairs, a large projection screen or flat panel television spread before us, dimmable mood lighting. But then most of us wake up and realize those dreams are impractical when it comes to the size of our theater room.  Though we may not have the largest home theater room available, there is still a way to incorporate comfortable, stylish theater seating that works.

Home Theater Design Meets Home Improvement

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

There is a certain traditional mindset that often comes into play when people consider interior home improvement. That is, most people consider purchasing new furniture, painting, artwork, plants and even exotic blinds as a way of improving the interior of their home. Now, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this as they are all valid methods. But, if you really want to look at jazzing up your home then a unique looking home theater system definitely has the potential to do wonders for an interior. In fact, if you mix up nice furniture with a top of the line home entertainment system then you will end up with a totally modern and high tech look for your home or apartment. Keep in mind, this does not mean that you should select a home theater system exclusively on looks as you will want a system that possesses top of the line audio and video. But, fear not, there are a ton of functional systems that look tremendous as well.

The Benefits of Home Theater Seating

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

When it comes to a home theater system most people become enamored with the quality of the audio and video, the assets of the various name brand components, etc. While these are critical areas to pay attention (a home theater system with poor audio and video is pretty underwhelming) there are other aspects that are important as well. After all, how much enjoyment would you derive from your home theater system if you watched it perched atop a metal folding chair? Clearly, if you want to gain the complete benefit of your home theater system you will need proper seating. Home theater seating provides the ability to comfortably enjoy watching movies and television for hours on end. If you find yourself wincing in your seat after only a half an hour you are probably not going to enjoy the experience. As such, a reliable home theater seating chair is a huge plus. Please note this does not mean you need to purchase an expensive chair. On the contrary, there are a number of inexpensive luxury chairs that can fit any budget. So, no one needs to feel left out!

How Big Should It Be?

Friday, August 10th, 2007

When people think about new televisions these days, they think “big” and “flat” and, well, “big”.  Televisions are being designed with large, modern, sexy, and sleek at their core. These impressive entertainment machines can be very enticing but they are not practical for every home. Some home theaters require a large video display because the size of the room and the seating requires it.  Others simply don’t have the wall or floor space for such a TV. Some home theater rooms can hold a TV of a very large size but the size of the rest of the room makes viewing it painful or distorted.

Once you have chosen the right surround sound equipment and DVD player to make your home theater system everything you have ever dreamed, turn your attention to the room itself.  What kind of atmosphere will your theatre invoke? Maybe you’ll buy some big, comfortable couches and a couple of bean bags for the comfort of your NBA playoff watching buddies. Maybe you’ll go modern with an avant-garde leather sofa and ergonomic chairs.

Home Theater Furniture Basics

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

The growth and sophistication of home theater equipment over the years has created a need for better home theater system furniture as well.   A home theater is not simply a TV on a wooden table or cabinet anymore.  If your home has a well-thought out system, you will want to have furniture that will be able to handle and protect that system and still fit in with the vision you have for the room.
