1957 Television Gets New Life With Digital Converter
This is a great story –
Richard Howard, a furniture restorer has converted a 1957 black & white TV, complete with its vintage containment cabinet to receive digital signals.
The relic hasn’t worked since the 1980s but Howard used one of the U.S digital-to-analog converters to restore the 17″ TV. The set can also use a modern DVD player.
“We supposedly live in a hi-tech age but most modern electronic equipment you buy needs replacing after a couple of years and yet this (television) has seen half a century and still sounds and looks great…. I think it is important to respect the past otherwise people will forget it,” said Howard. “If it weren’t for eccentrics like me nothing would be preserved.”
